Financial Dashboard with Power BI
The Financial Dashboard project at Versich demonstrates how Power BI can revolutionize the way finance teams handle multi-dimensional financial data. Organizations often face challenges in getting a consolidated view of their balance sheet, understanding profit and loss trends over multiple years, tracking cash flow against targets, and measuring financial ratios that indicate long-term business health. This project was designed to address those challenges by providing four comprehensive interactive dashboards Balance Sheet Analysis, Profit and Loss Analysis, Cash Flow Analysis, and Cash Ratio Analysis that bring clarity to every aspect of financial performance.
Key Features of the Project
- Balance Sheet Analysis: Track Operation Income ($930.1), Total Revenue ($29.7K), Total Sales ($27.98K), and Cost of Goods ($23.58K) across years 2017 to 2021. Visualize revenue trend over time, sales vs total expenses with other expense breakdown, year-wise sales and profit margin overview table, and operational income breakdown using a waterfall chart showing increases and decreases from $250.1 in 2017 to a cumulative $930.1.
- Profit and Loss Analysis: Monitor Gross Profit ($6.12K), Total Revenue ($29.7K), Net Profit (930.12), and Profit Margin % (3.13%) across all years. Analyze net profit distribution by year using a donut chart showing 2021 contributing 45.16% and 2017 contributing 26.89%, track profit margin trend from 4.90% in 2017 through a dip to 0.00% in 2019 and recovery to 6.27% in 2021, and compare sales vs net profit alongside revenue vs total expenses year on year.
- Cash Flow Analysis: Evaluate Cost of Goods ($23.58K), EBITDA (930.12), Total Assets (102K), and Total Expenses ($35.68K). Compare revenue vs target performance from 2017 to 2021, track EBITDA vs revenue trend showing EBITDA recovery from 250 in 2017 to 420 in 2021, monitor total sales achievement using a gauge chart against a $30K target (current $27.98K), and analyze expense distribution across Cost of Goods (66.09%), Employees Cost (19.37%), and Other Expenses (14.55%).
- Cash Ratio Analysis: Track Employee Cost ($6.91K), Inventory Turnover Ratio (1.34), Assets Turnover Ratio (0.27), and Return on Assets (0.01). Visualize asset turnover trend improving from 0.048 in 2017 to 0.062 in 2021, review year-wise financial ratios table covering Inventory Turnover, Asset Turnover, and Return on Assets from 2017 to 2021, analyze cost and resource distribution treemap comparing Employees Cost and Other Expenses across all five years, and track inventory vs employee cost trends showing inventory growing from 3,200 units in 2017 to 3,900 in 2021.
Operational Benefits
Traditional financial reporting often involves manual processes and fragmented data sources. With Power BI, Versich integrates multiple datasets into a unified view, reducing reporting cycles and improving accuracy. Executives, analysts, and customer service teams can now work from a single source of truth, ensuring consistency across the organization.
Strategic Advantages
Beyond operational efficiency, the Financial Dashboard project supports long-term strategic planning. Finance leaders and executive teams can use the dashboards to:
- Evaluate existing project schedules and identify projects that are consistently slipping into delayed or at risk status before they impact delivery deadlines.
- Design better cost management strategies by understanding the split between cost of goods, employee costs, and other expenses.
- Forecast future financial performance using EBITDA trends, asset turnover improvements, and revenue vs target comparisons.
- Improve financial ratio monitoring and strengthen annual reporting on inventory turnover, return on assets, and operational income.
Security and Compliance
With sensitive financial and accounting data at stake, security is paramount. Versich ensures that dashboards are built with role-based access controls, row-level security, and audit trails. This provides confidence that data is protected while remaining accessible to authorized users. Compliance with financial data governance frameworks is embedded into the design, reducing risk and ensuring peace of mind.
Real-World Impact
One organization using this project reported a 40% reduction in reporting cycle time and a significant improvement in financial ratio visibility across years. Finance and leadership teams also improved decision making speed as executives gained a consolidated real-time view of balance sheet health, profitability trends, and cash flow performance in one place. These outcomes highlight the tangible value of combining Power BI with Versich's expertise.
