Do you have inquiries about the NetSuite Smart Count Preferences and Spot Counting Inventory? We'll clarify how to set up your preferences for Smart Count and explain the step-by-step process for conducting a spot count.
The NetSuite Smart Count app offers a real-time framework for inventory management that is compatible with mobile devices. Spot counting occurs when a user randomly selects a bin to count, differing from a saved search-based count or a cycle count performed every 30, 60, or 90 days. Spot counts are particularly beneficial during periods of low activity or for random quality checks.
Configuring Smart Count Preferences
Start by going to Setup > Smart Count > Preferences.
There are four primary settings to note, along with various options that will depend on your specific circumstances. The four key settings include:
Force Blind Count: It’s advisable to enable this option. This prevents counters from being influenced by the available quantity, making them count all items without guessing.
Auto Approve Variances within Tolerance: Similar to a workflow for approvals, this feature automates the approval process for counts that fall within designated tolerances, lessening the workload for reviewers.
NOTE: The Smart Count Inventory Manager includes a user-friendly dashboard displaying approval and counting details.
Tolerance Preferences: You can establish a minimum and maximum allowable error for counts, both in quantity and percentage. This is connected to the auto-approval feature. Remember, this setting applies initially at the location level; if no tolerance has been set for that location, it defaults to the system-wide setting.
Default Action for On-Hand Change During Count: If conducting an inventory count while business operations are ongoing, set this to FORCE RECOUNT. This will prompt the counter to revisit the inventory for the most accurate results.
