It's essential to update your redirects during the implementation phase and whenever URLs change while managing your website after going live.
NetSuite Guide | Configuring Redirects in SuiteCommerce
When migrating your content from a previous provider to SuiteCommerce, you'll need to rearrange several URLs. In this guide, we’ll help you navigate a crucial part of this migration: setting up redirects. Without redirects, changes to your URLs can lead to 404 errors. Failing to address these errors, especially if Google has indexed your site, could harm your SEO efforts.
Consistent upkeep of your redirects is crucial. If you've set up Google Search Console for your existing domain, it will track any 404 pages. You can then export data from Google Search Console and import it into NetSuite for easy management.
Best Practice: Always ensure your redirects are updated during implementation and whenever you change a URL after your site goes live.
Understanding Redirects in NetSuite
Let’s clarify what a redirect means in the context of NetSuite. Start by navigating to Commerce > Hosting > Redirects.
This will bring up a list of your existing redirects, if any. In our demo account, there are currently no redirect records available.
On this page, you’ll find an Import option. If you're in the midst of a website migration and altering numerous URLs, you can utilize the CSV import tool to bring over all your previous redirects.
Note: It's worth mentioning that while you can’t perform a bulk export of redirects from NetSuite, you can delete multiple redirects at once if necessary.
We’ll discuss the step-by-step process to import redirects later, but first, let’s examine how to set up redirects one by one.
Creating Individual Redirects
If you only have a few URLs to redirect, the straightforward method is to input them one at a time. To do this, go to Commerce > Hosting > Redirects > New.
Simply choose the Domain Name for your website, specify the old relative URL, and then indicate the new relative URL.
Click Save, and be sure to test the redirect by entering the old URL in your browser to see if it redirects correctly to the new URL. If it doesn't, check your entries for accuracy.
If there were any errors, click 'Edit' to make the required adjustments. Once completed, save the changes and test the URL again to confirm it’s functioning properly.
Bulk Importing Redirects
Now that we’ve discussed individual redirects, let’s move on to bulk importing. Begin this process by returning to Commerce > Hosting > Redirects and selecting 'Import' this time.
Setting Up Your CSV File
If you haven't prepared a CSV file yet, it’s necessary to create one now. In the file, include only your relative from URL and relative to URL since you can add the domain later during the mapping process.
Scanning and Uploading the CSV File
After preparing your CSV file, choose it for upload, and once attached, click 'Next'.
At this stage, you’ll proceed to mapping. The options listed on the left come from your CSV file, while those on the right are the corresponding fields within NetSuite.
Drag and drop the mapping options for "relative from URL" and "relative to URL" into the mapping table. Additionally, we can introduce the NetSuite domain field, but we don’t have more fields from our CSV since the domain isn’t included. Therefore, instead of dragging it, we'll set it to a static value. Click the pencil icon next to the empty field.
This will open a pop-up where you can either input a default value or set it as null. In our example, we will select 'Provide a Default Value' and enter our demo site's domain.
Once your settings are configured, click 'OK' to complete the mapping. With the field mapping done, proceed by clicking 'Run.'
If importing a significant number of redirects, the process might take some time. Just like any CSV import in NetSuite, click 'Refresh' on the Job Status page to check if the import has been finalized.
Checking SuiteCommerce Redirects
After the import is complete, revisit the redirects list page to check the SuiteCommerce redirects associated with your account.
Make sure that the redirects you added are appearing correctly. Testing your redirects is important to ensure there were no mistakes during the import process.
That’s all for now! We hope this guide enhances your understanding of NetSuite and its capabilities for your business needs.
