Understanding Data Lineage

understanding data lineage

Data lineage is the process of tracing where your data comes from and how it changes throughout its lifecycle within a system or across several. In the context of data transfers from NetSuite to the Analytics Warehouse, it refers to the process of understanding and documenting how data moves from NetSuite to the Analytics Warehouse platform, so you always have a clear and traceable path for analysis and reporting.

NetSuite Analytics Warehouse Data Lineage Mapping Guide

Data lineage helps analysts and business users see where data comes from and how it changes, making it easier to understand and use the fields effectively in the Analytics Warehouse.

To get a better look at how data moves from NetSuite to the Analytics Warehouse, download the Data_Lineage_NS_NSAW mapping guide. You can also find it on the Data Transfer Setup page.

This mapping guide has eight columns that show how data moves through three key stages:

  1. NetSuite: this is the initial stage. It shows the original structure of your data in NetSuite, and it is represented by the columns under the NetSuite Linage section.
  2. Data Warehouse: This is the middle stage. It shows how your data is stored in NetSuite Analytics Warehouse. It is represented by the Physical Table and Physical Column columns under the Semantic Model (RPD) Lineage section.
  3. Analytics: this is the final stage. It shows the semantic layer of the data as it appears in the Analytics Warehouse, specifically designed to make reporting and analysis easier. It is represented by the Subject AreaTable (Analytics), and Column (Analytics) columns.
