How to Add Custom Information Tabs on SuiteCommerce PDP

Many SuiteCommerce users want to display more detailed information about their products - specifications, size charts, return policies, and so on. Fortunately, the SuiteCommerce platform provides a simple way to add additional content tabs to the Product Detail Page (PDP).

By creating custom item fields and configuring a few settings within NetSuite, you can quickly enhance the PDP experience for your shoppers without extra development.

Add New Fields for PDP Tabs

Start by creating custom item fields in NetSuite for each new tab you want to appear on the PDP. These fields should use the “Rich Text” type so you can add formatted content like paragraphs, bullet points, and links.

Name the fields consistently so they are easy to identify later. For example:

  • custitem_pdp_information_tab_1
  • custitem_pdp_information_tab_2
  • custitem_pdp_information_tab_3

There is no limit to how many tabs you can add, but keep in mind that only fields with content will display to users on the product page.

Add Fields to the Product Information Field Set

Once your item fields are created, the next step is to make sure they are visible in the website's product configuration.

Go to the following path in NetSuite:

Commerce > Website > Website List > [your website] > Field Sets

Find the “Product Information” field set and add your new custom fields to this section. Don’t forget to save the changes before continuing.

Configure the Product Details Information Settings

At this point, open the configuration settings for the relevant SuiteCommerce domain. Navigate to:

Commerce > Websites > Configuration > [domain] > Shopping Catalog > Product Details Information

Along the right-hand side, you will see fields labeled “Name.” These control what a shopper will see as the tab titles on the PDP. Assign clear, user-friendly headings such as “Shipping Info,” “Warranty Details,” or “Size Chart” depending on your use case.

There is also an optional field called “Itemprop” if you want to add structured data using HTML attributes. This is not required for the tabs to function.

Only tabs containing content from the related item fields will appear on the PDP. If you leave any of the custom fields blank on an item, the corresponding tab will not display.

Key benefits:

  • Improves PDP design with structured, easy-to-navigate information
  • Allows for flexible tab content across different product types
  • Enhances user experience without requiring additional code development

By following this setup, you can easily scale up the product information displayed on your SuiteCommerce store. If you run into any issues during the process, ensure all related features are enabled and fields correctly populated.
