Background The Client Challenge

Our client manufactures agricultural and heavy-duty machinery sold globally, and runs an extensive in-house testing program. Hundreds of equipment units go through durability, performance, and safety testing across a wide range of operating conditions before machines are cleared for the field.

The client wanted a centralized, automated analytics platform for its testing operation but the existing setup relied entirely on manual data handling:

  • Testing results were stored across disconnected systems in varied formats CSV files, local spreadsheets, and legacy databases with no unified repository
  • Manual data collection and analysis led to delayed reporting and frequent human errors
  • No ability to compare test runs dynamically or drill into specific time intervals for root cause analysis
  • Inconsistent CSV file structures across different test types complicated data consolidation
  • No self service analytics capability for engineering and QA teams

The company chose Microsoft Power BI as their analytics and visualization platform and partnered with Versich bringing 10+ years of Power BI and data engineering expertise to lead the full implementation.

Our Solution

Discovery and Data Modeling

Discovery and Data Modeling

  • Catalogued every CSV export currently produced across test types, noting column counts, header conventions, and metadata fields that varied from rig to rig
  • Grouped the recurring file layouts into a small library of reusable templates, so new test types could be onboarded by matching against an existing pattern rather than custom-coding each one from scratch
  • Modeled the target database around three logical groupings test run details, raw measurement results, and derived statistics such as averages and deviations so reports could join cleanly across all three
  • Reviewed which existing SQL logic could carry over into the new Azure-based design versus what needed to be rebuilt

Platform Architecture

Platform Architecture

  • Landed all incoming CSV files in Azure Blob Storage, with an automated trigger that queues each new file for processing the moment it arrives
  • Used Azure SQL Database as the system of record, with an Azure Function polling for new files on a five-minute cycle and processing them automatically
  • Matched each incoming file against the template library from the discovery phase, so files from new or non-standard test configurations are routed and structured correctly without manual mapping
  • Added an isolated analytics sandbox where the team can prototype models or run ad-hoc analysis without touching production data

Reporting, Access, and Governance

Reporting, Access, and Governance

  • Built interactive Power BI reports for each equipment test type, letting engineers move fluidly between raw readings and full test-run summaries
  • Connected Excel and Power BI Desktop directly to the warehouse so engineering and QA teams can build their own views without waiting on IT
  • Configured role-based permissions through SQL Server Management Studio so engineering, QA, and management each see only the data relevant to their function
  • Maintained a full processing log of every file ingested, to support quality and compliance reviews
  • Kept the sandbox environment fully isolated from production so model iteration never puts live testing data at risk

Business Impact

Unified Data Platform

Unified Data Platform

The client fully replaced its fragmented, manual testing data process with a centralised Azure SQL Database eliminating silos and creating a single, reliable source of truth for all equipment testing results across 180+ parameters.

Automated Data Pipelines

Automated Data Pipelines

Manual data collection and processing fully eliminated. Azure Functions and scheduled ETL jobs now handle ingestion, transformation, and loading automatically freeing engineering teams to focus on analysis rather than data preparation.

Real-Time Test Monitoring

Real-Time Test Monitoring

Engineering and QA teams access dynamic Power BI dashboards that refresh automatically, enabling near real time monitoring of test parameters and faster identification of performance anomalies across all equipment units.

Faster, Evidence-Based Decisions

Faster, Evidence-Based Decisions

Management and operations teams access summarised test results and trend analysis through executive dashboards enabling faster, evidence-based product development and quality assurance decisions.

Versich understood our finance workflows from day one. They built dashboards that connected directly to our ERP and gave our leadership team real-time visibility into cash flow, margins, and budget vs actuals. The quality of the work and the speed of delivery were both outstanding

Before Versich, our reporting was scattered across spreadsheets with no single source of truth. They built us a Power BI environment that connects our warehouse, finance, and sales data in one place. Our operations team now makes decisions in hours instead of days
