Background The Client Challenge

Our client is a leading provider of manufacturing and supply chain management services, operating across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The company helps businesses manage the full SCM cycle from sourcing and quality control to finishing and shipment through a global network of suppliers and logistics partners.The client was analyzing sales performance across all its locations using built-in SAP ERP reporting. Over time, this approach hit a hard ceiling:

  • The ERP could not provide the drill-down reporting capabilities the business needed to analyze sales by country, customer, and product.
  • With six geographically distributed databases across three continents, there was no unified view of global sales performance.
  • Sales and margin data existed in silos making cross-regional comparisons and performance benchmarking impossible.
  • Manual reporting was time-consuming and could not keep up with the pace of the business.

  • Assembled a five-member team: Project Manager, Senior Business Analyst, Lead Data Engineer, Senior Data Engineer, and Senior DevOps Engineer.
  • Explored all six source databases, existing data flows, and current reporting gaps.
  • Elicited detailed requirements for sales analytics across all geographies.
  • Confirmed Azure as the preferred stack aligned with the client's existing Microsoft subscriptions.
  • Designed an end-to-end BI architecture covering ingestion, storage, transformation, and reporting.

Azure Data Pipeline & Warehouse Implementation

Azure Data Pipeline & Warehouse Implementation

  • Used Azure Data Factory to extract data from predefined columns across all six distributed databases.
  • Landed raw data in Azure Blob Storage as CSV files, organized in dedicated folders per database for clean mapping.
  • Converted validated files to Parquet format to optimize storage and improve query performance.
  • Aggregated and loaded transformed data into Azure SQL Database as the central data warehouse for all sales reporting.

Power BI Dashboards & Security

Power BI Dashboards & Security

  • Built a Sales Dashboard showing global sales by country, country sales by customer, and customer sales by commodity all with drill-down capabilities.
  • Built a Product Margin Dashboard displaying margin by customer, item number, and sales account manager.
  • Implemented row-level security and user authentication via Azure Active Directory and Azure Backup for governed, tiered data access.
  • Delivered the full BI solution in 7 weeks giving every user access to meaningful sales insights without manual navigation
