NetSuite Help Center
Finding effective solutions quickly is vital in today's fast-paced environment, especially when software issues arise. To support users effectively, NetSuite provides essential resources to ensure your tasks and business operations run seamlessly. With tools designed to assist users facing errors, how-to questions, or complicated problems, NetSuite makes finding help straightforward. The primary resources for obtaining assistance with NetSuite are the NetSuite Help Center and SuiteAnswers.
The NetSuite Help Center is available anytime once you log into your account. This center houses technical documents and details about how various NetSuite functions work. You can access the Help Center by clicking the "help" icon located in the upper right corner.
Help articles across many NetSuite pages are context-sensitive, meaning they pertain only to the current page you're viewing. A global search bar allows users to seek specific help documents by entering "help" along with relevant terms (using NetSuite terminology when possible). The support center also provides quick links to essential topics, including user manuals, training sessions, SuiteApps, and updates.
Utilizing The Help Button
You will find the Help button positioned in the upper right corner of the NetSuite interface. This button adjusts its location as needed based on your current page. For instance, while on the journal entry page, you can search for phrases like "creating journal entry" if you need clarification on the task.
A vast array of written content is available in the Help Center for you to explore and learn. Numerous options are categorized under accounting, covering areas like banking, taxation, financial reporting, fixed asset management, statistical accounting, multi-book accounting, and general accounting, where you'll uncover answers to related inquiries.
SuiteAnswers
NetSuite SuiteAnswers serves as a comprehensive resource for all significant information related to NetSuite. It's an excellent platform for learning about best practices, accessing slideshows, training videos, help manuals, and other support articles. You'll find this resource within NetSuite by clicking the "Support" menu tab and selecting "Go to SuiteAnswers." This section includes hundreds of real-world questions and issues submitted by customers and partners to the NetSuite support team.
On SuiteAnswers' homepage, you can discover the latest updates, news about upcoming releases, trending topics, and newly introduced information. Similar to the Help Center, you can search for specific topics by typing them into the search box.
Let’s delve deeper into what SuiteAnswers has to offer! The SuiteAnswers platform is where NetSuite curates a comprehensive array of learning materials. While NetSuite has its own support section, SuiteAnswers enhances user experience with tutorial videos, step-by-step guides, the ability to submit support tickets, and direct contact options with NetSuite. Here’s how to navigate SuiteAnswers effectively, along with some essential tips.
How To Navigate SuiteAnswers
SuiteAnswers stands out from the standard NetSuite help article because of its existing knowledge repositories, user video tutorials, and help articles. To find information on a specific subject, simply enter a relevant keyword into the main search area. For our example, we'll look for "adding items to order" and hit "Enter."
On the left-hand side of the page, you can further refine your results based on the type of content. It’s possible to filter support documents, instructional videos, help topics, or SuiteWorld presentations. If your first round of searching doesn’t yield results, you can adjust your keywords and conduct a new search. This will allow you to swiftly obtain the information you were looking for!
Key Differences Between Help Center and SuiteAnswers
NetSuite offers two primary documentation resources: the Help Center and SuiteAnswers, each serving a distinct purpose. However, it’s common for users to confuse the two. So, what sets them apart and why does it matter?
While an extensive comparison is beyond this article's scope, the main distinction can be summarized as follows:
Help Center: Product Documentation
The Help Center acts as a structured repository for NetSuite's features and functionalities, serving as a product documentation source. It contains some articles that can be accessed without needing to log into a NetSuite account, including well-organized PDF User Guides.
The links to articles found in the Help Center are tailored to specific accounts. For example, the URL format for the main page of the Help Center appears as: `https://account id>.app.netsuite.com/app/help/helpcenter.nl?topic=DOC FRONTPAGE` Even though the content is consistent across various environments, the "account id>" component will vary among Production, Sandbox, or other environments. This discrepancy can complicate sharing information, which is essential for empowering users.
In essence, while the links in SuiteAnswers are not account-specific, those in the Help Center are. For this reason, Help Center links may be less reliable compared to their SuiteAnswers counterparts.
SuiteAnswers: Knowledge Base
The search feature in SuiteAnswers is unintuitive! If your search query contains a single typo, you might not receive any results. For instance, searching for "suitscript" in SuiteAnswers yields no answers, whereas the Help Center will interpret this and provide relevant results, similar to a competent search engine.
The Help Center integrates effortlessly with the NetSuite application. The contextually aware Help Button is located on every page’s top-right corner. When clicked, it will attempt to open a relevant article from the Help Center based on the page’s content, which is extremely helpful. Furthermore, you can conduct a direct search of the Help Center by typing "help:" in the Global Search box.
These factors often lead to users favoring the Help Center over SuiteAnswers.
What is Answer ID?
The SuiteAnswers URLs are not tied to specific accounts, making them ideal for sharing. Each SuiteAnswers article is assigned an "Answer ID," including those within the Help Center. This unique identifier specifically distinguishes every article and is particularly valued in the NetSuite support community.
You will likely receive an Answer ID from NetSuite Support Representatives instead of a URL. The concept is straightforward: while URLs can change, Answer IDs remain consistent. To find an article using an Answer ID, you can enter it in the SuiteAnswers search bar or simply adjust the last portion of the URL structure as follows: `https://netsuite.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/`
Can NetSuite Address Advanced Inquiries?
SuiteAnswers serves as a compilation of various responses to inquiries. If you're dealing with more complex issues, you can find this feature in the top left corner, which opens in a new window when clicked.
To manage the journal entry workflow, follow these steps:
Step 1: Enter "journal entry workflow" in the search box.
Step 2: Click the Search button.
Step 3: Relevant outcomes will appear on your screen, including best practices, training videos, and support documents.
Step 4: Choose the item that most closely aligns with your needs from the results.
At the bottom of your search results, you can find answers to related questions that others found helpful. This is particularly advantageous, as fellow users might have identified the right keywords when you were unsure. Therefore, you’ll access critical information more effectively.
How Useful are NetSuite's Training Videos?
NetSuite's training videos are accessible via the Help Files within SuiteAnswers. While most tutorial videos are straightforward, new users should begin with the simpler options. As you progress, the content becomes increasingly detailed.
To navigate through the training videos, follow these steps:
Step 1: Select the topic you need help with from the left column.
Step 2: A list of available content for that topic will appear in the center area.
Step 3: Click the link to watch your desired video, and it will start playing.
How To Convert A Help Center Page Into A SuiteAnswer Resource?
The process is quite straightforward. Be sure to swap the host portion of the URL with netsuite.custhelp.com and then hit Enter. NetSuite handles the rest for you!
Keep the `https://` component of the URL intact. (In technical terminology, this is the scheme part of the URL, and failing to do so could lead to a "404 - Page Not Found" error.)
Be cautious about case sensitivity, as this is significant in NetSuite. Using a Help Center link that ends in "n2824008.html" could result in a 500 error, while the uppercase version "N2824008.html" would work without issue.
You can also view the creation and latest modification dates of articles when reading Help Center content via SuiteAnswers. Not much of this supportive data is available in the Help Center itself.
Additionally, if you prefer to share the Help Center URL, you can substitute netsuite.custhelp.com with system.netsuite.com. This will redirect users to the appropriate account-specific URL. It’s worth noting that since the 2016.2 release, NetSuite has been shifting away from using data center-based URLs in favor of account-specific ones to optimize cloud architecture, so this detour might not be available for long.
